ESTHER AMBA NUMABA COBBAH – Chief Executive Officer at Strategic Communications Africa Limited

Born to a father who was a Postmaster, and a mother who was a housewife entrepreneur in Sekondi, in the Western Region of Ghana, Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah commenced school at the Queen Elizabeth Day Care Centre but was later transferred to three different schools, after her dad was posted to different places. She finally settled at her hometown, Komenda in the Central Region of Ghana, to complete her primary school education.

When she was a child, she used to think deeply into issues affecting her community, and pondered how she could engineer possible sustainable solutions to rectify them, and improve the livelihoods of people in her community, and beyond.

Cobbah is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, as well as Cornell University and an International Rotary Scholar. As a qualified Gestalt Development Professional, she has made tremendous impact in this area through her quality publications.

Esther is a member of numerous professional bodies including the International Communication Association (ICA), and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

According to her, faith can be practically applied as a business management philosophy in this statement: “I feel that practising biblical principles at work makes business sense also. The Bible is not only a spiritual document; it’s also a business guide. When you work to the standards of the person that created the world, you find that your organization achieves more because your standards are not earthly standards.”

It’s not surprising that she continues to climb higher and higher in life. The above statement alone is a fountain of blessings to her credit.

The award-winning communications consultant has over 30 years experience in the field of communication, and has a track record of providing effective communications strategies to promoting innovation and enhancing awareness in Ghana and beyond.

Cobbah is also the founder and CEO of Strategic Communications Limited (Stratcomm Africa). Its services include Public Relations, Brand Management & Advertising, Research, Media Monitoring and Analysis, Digital Communication, Development Communication, Behaviour Change Communication (Community Relations & CSR), Event Management and Training, Facilitation & Orientation. The Accra-based agency has served over 150 local and International clients.

Stratcomm Africa has also set up a campaign program, purposely designed to improve the reading, analytical and creative skills of children in various communities including Komenda, and Kanda and La, Accra-Ghana.

The astute and determined entrepreneur, when hired in the 1980s by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, built the PR team from the scratch, and utilized her innovative approaches to promote the country’s potential for oil production to Internal stakeholders and international investors, even when many doubted her ability and potential.

Cobbah also did a magical work by developing and implementing a programme of systematic public education on the petroleum industry in the country, coupled with multidisciplinary programme for the dissemination of nationwide use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic activities (cooking).

Cobbah was later appointed the first External Affairs Manager for the West African Gas Pipeline Project Consortium made up of Shell, Chevron, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, and the gas companies of Togo and Benin, such as Sotogaz, and Sobegaz, with Chevron being the managing sponsor.

Awards Received

Media Entrepreneur of the Year (2010), Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Woman of the Year (2012), Outstanding Corporate Woman of the Year at the 2013 Ghana Women’s Awards, Institute of Public Relations Ghana, Public Relations Personality of the Year (2013), Public Relations Consultancy of the Year 2013 Award (Stratcomm Africa), She was also named among Top Women in PR, 2016.

She is married to Esq Tsatsu Tsikata, with three children.
